Helmet Liner

Ravelry charity KAL. There is strength in numbers. Helmet Liner is a very easy pattern, knit in the round (there are also instructions for crochet). It takes only one skein of Cascade 220. Black. Be sure to get the superwash. Actually- less than one skein. Knit with US6 and 8.
Some people may not understand the fact that a person who dislikes wars is knitting for soldiers, but to me, its one and the same. I am pro- people. Soldiers are sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, grandparents, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, best friends, etc. Most of them would much rather be home with their family. I feel the sadness of all mothers whose children are out there. I wish for them to all come home, safely, soon!

Frankly, I couldn't have put it better myself. When I attended my weekly charity knitting circle at my job I asked the coordinator what she was in need of the most and replied"helmet liners". I had been procrastinating knitting anything for the military because of my personal beliefs but then I thought about, and I decided that I'm knitting this helmet liner to keep a person warm, you know try to bring a little bit of comfort in someones lives. Like yourself, I just had to readjust my way of looking at things, I'm not supporting a war, I'm supporting people. (sorry for the long comment)

I can't stand the war but support our soldiers. I adopted one this summer through Soldier's Angels and will be making him a helmet liner!

I like your approach to this type of charity knitting. I think a lot of people forget the human factor of this war. Good for you for remembering and pointing it out. PS. You look like you're getting ready to rob a bank ;)

I completely understand - and I thank you. My brother is in the army, currently deployed to Afghanistan, and though I do not support the war in any way, I am completely supportive of my brother and his fellow soldiers.

I've not been keeping up on my blog reading while travelling. One computer, three people in the family, one teenager.....I love the helmet liner and will make one or more. Thanks for showing. I haven't had time to sign up for Ravelry yet. Soon.

Wonderful words and wonderful work! On a more superficial note, can I say that you look pretty ninja in the helmet liner!

I'm inspired as well.... I'll be getting some superwash tomorrow! Thanks for the perspective, as well. Your picture was sobering & inspiring all at once.

Thank you for doing this. You have no idea how much it's appreciated at the sharp end. It really does make a difference.

next up for me, for sure. my brother is a captain in the army and had his stint in iraq. it was hard and he lost some of the young men, he wrote about at his blog, 365 and a wakeup. i do not support the war, but i do believe we must support our men. they do a duty they are told to do...they have no choice in the matter. thank you for sharing.

My belief is if our soldiers are warm and comfortable, they'll be able to respond better and thus are more likely to come home. I've been knitting socks for soldiers for years. I like your helmet liner! --Syl
